WriterKEY Implementation Surveys

Surveys related to classroom teaching and learning generally fall into one of three types. Diagnostic surveys explore what needs do these students have. Progress Monitoring surveys research how effective the teaching and learning has been. Curriculum Monitoring surveys results measure perceptions about the effectiveness of what is being taught.
Effective and Efficient Grading Part 1
Use this progress monitoring survey during the school year to measure students' understanding and application of writing feedback. This survey should be given approximately 2-3 times per year.
Effective and Efficient Grading Part 2
This survey is the second part of a two part survey. These two surveys should be given over the course of a week, but not at the same time. View data together as one measure.
Expectations for Revision
This survey is given mid-year as part of a curriculum and progress monitoring system. This "benchmark" survey can be part of other surveying that is done at the mid-year or mid-course point.

Getting Started with Writing
This survey is used at the beginning of a writing course or where writing improvement is a focus point of the curriculum. This survey is best given in the second to fourth week of the course before the first multi-draft assignment is given.
Reflecting on a Writing Course
This survey is used at the end of a writing course or where writing improvement has been a focus point of the curriculum. This survey is best given prior to the last week of the course and before a final version of a portfolio is compiled.
Writing Expectations
This survey is used during a writing course to measure students' perception of communication and engagement. This survey should be given approximately several times per year.
